Southern Union State Community College earns NIMS Accreditation
NIMS is pleased to announce the official accreditation of the Machine Shop Technology Program at Southern Union State Community College (SUSCC) in Opelika, Alabama! Officially accredited as of July 23, 2013, the staff and faculty at SUSCC have met NIMS standards and will continue to set the bar for exceptional metalworking training for secondary education in the state of Alabama.
To complete the accreditation audit an On-Site Evaluation took place at the college on July 16-17, 2013 and was conducted by expert evaluation Team Leader Wes Ellis (AL Technology Network). The audit included a facility inspection of the program's metalworking shop, as well as a host of in-depth interviews with students, instructors, administrators, program advisory committee members, and local employers. Following these events, Wes and his evaluation team gathered enough evidence to recommend accreditation, giving the program above-average ratings in several areas of evaluation, which included Facilities, Equipment/Tooling/Measuring Devices, Program Features, Administration, Instructional Staff, and Advisory Committee.
This accreditation is in Level I Machining Skills, with an emphasis on:
- Measurement, Materials & Safety
- Job Planning, Benchwork, & Layout
- Milling I
- Turning Operations: Turning Chucking
Congratulations to everyone involved in this process, especially Instructor Sam Fulford for his active commitment in securing this accreditation! Special thanks to Wes Ellis for conducting the On-Site Evaluation at the college.
