Accreditation Renewed at Ivy Tech Community College in South Bend
Keeping up with today’s standards, Ivy Tech Community College (South Bend, IN) has renewed the NIMS Accreditation of their Machine Tool Institute as of Tuesday, August 13, 2013. This is the college’s second time establishing itself as a NIMS-Accredited institution, as it first set this benchmark in 2006. NIMS applauds Ivy Tech for its continued commitment to meeting National Industry Standards for metalworking skills training.
In July 2013, NIMS Evaluator Scott McConnelee (Mapal Tool) conducted a rigorous On-Site Evaluation at the facility in South Bend, Indiana. Highly complementary of the program, in his evaluation McConnelee appreciated the program's aspirations to be a top training provider for metalworking skills in the entire country and noted the strong central role played by NIMS Standards and Credentials in achieving that top rank. Ultimately McConnelee delivered to the program top ratings in all areas of evaluation, including Program Purpose, Facilities, Equipment / Tooling / Measuring Devices, Program Features, Administration / Management, Instructional Staff / Trainers, Student Credentials, and Advisory Committee Support. This accreditation is in Level I Machining Skills, with an emphasis on:
- Measurement, Materials & Safety
- Job Planning, Benchwork, & Layout
- Milling I (manual)
- Grinding I
- Turning Operations: Turning Chucking Skills
- CNC Milling: Operations
