NIMS is pleased to announce the official accreditation of the Manufacturing Technology Program at Oliver Wolcott Technical High School in Torrington, Connecticut! Since first applying for accreditation in early 2009, the staff and faculty at Oliver Wolcott have met NIMS standards and will continue to set the bar for exceptional metalworking training for secondary students in the state of Connecticut.

To complete the accreditation audit, an On-Site Evaluation took place at the Oliver Wolcott facility on November 15-16, which was conducted by veteran NIMS Evaluation Team Leader Tom Wilks of Jay Sons Screw Machine Products in Plantsville, CT and Manufacturing Technology Instructor Dave Tuttle of Platt Technical High School in Milford, CT, whose own program is currently seeking accreditation, as well.

The audit included a facility inspection of the program’s metalworking shop and a host of in-depth interviews with students, instructors, administrators, program advisory committee members, and local employers.  Following these events, the evaluation team gathered enough evidence to recommend accreditation, giving the program very high ratings in the areas of Program Purpose, Facilities/Equipment, Tooling & Measuring Devices, Administration Support, and Instructional Staff.

Congratulations to everyone involved in this process, especially Department Head Larry Pomerleau and Instructor Frank Lakomski for working so actively to secure this accreditation!   Special thanks to the Evaluation Team as well, without which this would not be possible!
